Warning: Scammers Posing as Legitimate Loan Providers

Posted on August 15, 2017 Security Center 0 comments

United Heritage Credit Union has received an increasing number of reports of scammers posing as legitimate lending companies to extort victims.

Many times, these scammers will offer loans via internet forums, emails or phone calls under the guise of an actual loan provider. Appearing to have access to personal information, they utilize threats and intimidation tactics to get what they want from their victims.

The following are reasons you might be suspicious of a loan offer:

  • Someone promises you a loan in exchange for an up-front fee.
  • Someone asks you to send them money before they approve you for a loan.
  • Someone asks you to provide financial information even though you did not initiate contact.
  • You are communicating with someone via email who does not have a company email address but instead uses a personal email domain, such as Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.

If you have any questions regarding suspicious activity or suspect fraud of any kind on your accounts, call United Heritage Credit Union at 512.435.4545, 903.597.7484 or 800.531.2328.
