Cybersecurity Breach Impacts Federal Employees

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently became aware of a cybersecurity incident affecting its systems that may have compromised the personal information of current and former Federal employees. While the recent security breach at the OPM hasn't directly impacted United Heritage Credit Union, it's possible that members who are or were Federal employees may have been impacted. The OPM will send notifications to affected employees by June 19, 2015.

NCUA Website Scam Warning

Fake websites have surfaced with a logo and design similar to that of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). These imposter sites attempt to convince consumers to provide their sensitive personal information, such as Social Security Number, or to transfer large amounts of money. It's been reported that consumers have also received emails from the "National Credit Union" website, which is not affiliated in any way with the NCUA. The NCUA warns all credit union members to be on the lookout for bogus websites and emails posing as the federal agency.

More than 40 consumers around the country have received a scam phone text message purporting to use a National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) phone number, the agency announced Wednesday, March 26, 2015.

In order to steal personal information, like Online Banking credentials, scammers are now sending emails including links that change the settings on your internet router if clicked. Attacks such as this often bypass antivirus software, so the security breach can go undetected for a long period of time. It is recommended you update the username and password on your wired or wireless router often as a safety precaution.
