2016 Book Drive

Through the first two weeks of March, Team United Heritage is collecting gently used or new children's books for its 2016 Book Drive benefiting BookSpring in Austin and the Literacy Council of Tyler.

United Heritage members are encouraged to participate in the drive by bringing books to their local UHCU branch location and placing them in a donation barrel or giving them to a branch employee. Along with members, UHCU employees are also donating books to help these deserving organizations. Donations can be made through Friday, March 11, 2016

Donation Guidelines:

  • Gently used or new children's books (infant to young adult) with intact, clean and unmarked pages
  • No textbooks
  • No used coloring or activity books

BookSpring:

BookSpring's mission is to provide reading experiences, tools and books to children and their families so they can develop a desire to read and succeed in school and life. Because the inability to read has been linked to an individual's self-esteem and ability to advance socially and academically, BookSpring has made it their goal to help drive early literacy development. BookSpring strives to reach families when children are young and encourage them to foster reading comprehension skills in the early years of brain development. BookSpring works daily to equip children, families and communities with the tools and skills required for long-term success.

Literacy Council of Tyler:

Literacy Council of Tyler's mission is to improve the lives of individuals and their families by eliminating illiteracy through educational services. Their programs impact undereducated adults, their families and the community at large. Literacy Council of Tyler offers basic education, GED and ESL classes as well as a family literacy program at the Family Learning Center of Tyler.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask a branch employee or leave a comment below. United Heritage looks forward to providing these worthy organizations with a substantial donation of reading materials to help further their individual missions. Because of contributions like these from United Heritage employees and members, BookSpring and the Literacy Council of Tyler can continue to make a positive impact on their communities.
