United Heritage Credit Union Sponsors Honor Flight Austin

United Heritage Credit Union and its United Heritage Charity Foundation are directly supporting local military veterans in the Austin area. On October 27, a group of volunteers, guardians, and military service members took a 'Trip of a Lifetime' to Washington, D.C. to see the military memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. A special send-off procession occurred on Friday, October 27 at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) as the group made their way to their departure gate. The procession included the ABIA TSA Color Guard and the Austin Police Department Pipe and Drum Corps. Travelers and airport staff stopped to honor and cheer on the veterans as the procession moved through the terminal. They returned the following day and were greeted with a surprise welcome from family, friends, and individuals at the airport. UHCU was the sponsor of Honor Flight Austin's 87th flight which carried 39 veterans from the Korean War, Cold War and Vietnam War along with the other individuals who joined the experience.

In 2022, the United Heritage Charity Foundation began partnering with Honor Flight Austin for its giving initiatives which focused on Military & Veteran Assistance. The Credit Union believes in the philosophy of people helping people and seeks to make the biggest impact in a direct way for the communities we serve. Not only did UHCU sponsor a flight in 2023, but it also invited UHCU employees to sign up to be a guardian for a veteran as well as engaged its employee volunteer group, Team United Heritage, to attend the Welcome Home event as a group. Kevin Farley, Vice Chairman of the Charity Foundation, was present at the Welcome Home event and shared what some of the guardian's duties were during their travel, "This was a quick two-day trip where our UHCU employees had the honor of escorting military service members throughout their time in Washington DC. They visited the various memorials, looked up friends and fellow soldiers that they served with but did not return, and had the opportunity to listen and share stories about their experiences in the military."

In addition to donating $50,000 for veterans to take a flight at the end of October, United Heritage donated Page 1/2 PRLog - Global Press Release Distribution a laptop to the organization to use for presentations and administrative work. Honor Flight Austin gives 100 percent of its proceeds to the veterans it serves, and relies on donations to support its cause.
